The Indian Embassy in Russia said on Saturday night that four Indian students were among several injured in the attack in Ufa, Russia.

The attackers stabbed several students and two police officers in an attempt to resist arrest, according to Russia’s Interior Ministry. (Representative Image/Unsplash)At least six Indian students were injured in a knife attack at a university in Russia’s Bashkortostan republic, news agency PTI reported, citing the Indian mission.

“An unfortunate incident of attack took place in Ufa. Several people including four Indian students were injured,” the Indian embassy said. Moscow X (formerly Twitter) said in a post.

The embassy added that it was in contact with authorities and that “officials from the consulate in Kazan are traveling to Ufa to provide assistance to the injured students.”

What happened?The incident took place on Saturday when a teenager entered the premises of Ufar State Medical University Russiaof the Republic of Bashkortostan, according to initial reports. The assailant reportedly entered the dormitory and carried out the attack, taking the students unaware.

The attackers stabbed several students and two police officers in an attempt to resist arrest, according to Russia’s Interior Ministry.

“The attacker resisted arrest, during which two police officers were stabbed. In addition, the suspect also inflicted physical harm on himself,” Interior Ministry spokeswoman Major General Irina Volk said, as quoted by RTVI.com webportal.

Russia’s federal health ministry said four of the victims were receiving medical care, including one in critical condition.

The attacker himself, identified as a 15-year-old, was also admitted to a children’s hospital and is in critical condition, according to the Baja Telegram channel.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the attack and according to the aforementioned Baja channel, the accused was part of a banned neo-Nazi organization called ‘NS/WP’.

“During the frenzy of the attack, he was shouting nationalist slogans about (the Holocaust),” the PTI report said and shared a bas-relief painted on the wall with the blood of the victims.
