A merry-go-round at the Surajkund International Crafts Festival in Haryana’s Faridabad turned into a nightmare when it collapsed while visitors were climbing it. A police inspector was injured and at least 12 visitors were injured in the incident.
A video taken by a spectator at the Surajkund fair shows the ride operating at high speed when one side of its supporting pillars suddenly collapses (source).The swing collapse occurred between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm on Saturday. A video of the incident has also gone viral, showing the swing moments before it tipped over and fell to the ground, along with the occupants.

The deceased inspector has been identified as Inspector Jagdish Prasad, who was involved in the security of the fair, H.T. Report. Gupta was involved in a rescue operation when debris fell on him and he suffered severe head injuries.
The inspector was rushed to hospital but died during treatment. Meanwhile, the injured visitors have been taken to the hospital.
Faridabad DC Ayush Sinha told ANI that action will be taken against the joyride operator. He also said that an FIR would be registered, and an investigation would be carried out.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ayush Sinha and Tourism MD Partha Gupta reached the spot on getting the news.
Police officials also said that a rescue operation was launched immediately and a stall operator was also injured. A grill of the swing hit the operator, injuring his shoulder, PTI quoted officials as saying.
Earlier in the day, gate number 2 of the fair ground collapsed, injuring two people, including a child.

The Surajkund Crafts Fair is being held from January 31 to February 15, featuring traditional handicrafts, weaving, culture and cuisine from various states and other nations of the country. Egypt is the partner country this year.
The fair is recognized as one of the largest cultural and handicraft festivals in India, attracting lakhs of domestic and international visitors every year.
