A man has been charged with the murder of 20-year-old student Khalid Oladipo in Leicester.
Police said Harper Dennis, 18, of North Road, West Drayton, London, was charged with murder and possession of a dangerous weapon in a public place.
Oladipo, a cybersecurity student at De Montfort University, died after being stabbed in the chest on Oxford Street in Leicester city center on Tuesday night.
Leicestershire Police said Dennis will appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
The force said he was also charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon in a private place unrelated to the homicide investigation.
Oladipo, who lives in Leicester, was described by his family as a “much-loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend” with a passion for football.
His family said in a statement: “Words cannot express how devastated we are at the loss of Khaled.
“Khalid is a good boy who loves his family, he is in his second year at university, and we are very proud of him.
“One of his main passions was football and he played from the age of four. He was an Arsenal supporter and we believe he was on his way home to watch the game that night when he was stabbed.
“We would like to thank the members of the public who stopped to try and help Khalid and the ambulance service and hospital staff who did everything they could to try and save him.”
