A team of Bihar Police on Friday reached the residence of the state’s Independent Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav in Patna to arrest him in a case that is more than three decades old.

Pappu Yadav claimed that the police who came to arrest him, some of whom were in “civilian dress”, behaved “badly”. (PTI)News agency PTI reported that the police wanted to arrest Yadav even as he claimed that he was being targeted because he had criticized the Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar, particularly over the recent death of a NEET candidate in the state.

The drama unfolds at Yadav’s place, who represents BiharWhen Dr the police came to arrest him. Yadav reportedly asked the police team to “go back” and promised that he would appear in court on Saturday.

He also said he was aware of the court summons and would appear in court on Saturday, while claiming that the police who came to arrest him, some of whom were in “civilian clothes”, treated him “badly”.

“I have returned after attending the Parliament session. I am aware of the court summons and will appear tomorrow. But the policemen, some of whom came in civilian dress, are misbehaving”, he told PTI.

What has the police reached to arrest Pappu Yadav?According to Patna SP City Bhanu Pratap Singh, the case was filed under various sections of the 1995 and old Indian Penal Code, which has now been replaced by the BNS (Indian Penal Code). He said the case was related to Gardanibagh police station and Yadav was arrested as he failed to appear in court on the scheduled date.

“This is a 1995 case under old IPC, now replaced by BNS (Indian Code of Justice), involving Sections 419, 420, 468, 448, 506, and 120B. Arrest under these sections. The case was ongoing at Gardanibagh police station and the MP appeared before the court. He did not appear on the scheduled date so he is being arrested…” News Agency Singh told ANI.

Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharmao echoed what Singh said and told PTI that “a warrant was issued by the MP/MLA court here for a 1995 case after Yadav failed to appear. So we have sent a team to produce him in court”.
