Three people were killed and six others were injured when the driver of a car rammed into a two-wheeler who rammed into a grocery store on Thursday afternoon. Los Angelesofficials said.
The crash happened just after noon at 99 Ranch Market in the city’s Westwood neighborhood, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Lindsey Lantz.
The three victims, some of whom were trapped under the vehicle, died at the scene, Lantz said.
A subsequent incident report from the fire department said four people were taken to hospitals — two in critical condition and two with minor injuries. Two other people refused transport against medical advice.
Lt. Anthony Espinoza of the Los Angeles Police Department said the Toyota Prius lost control after hitting the bicyclist and plowed into the bakery section of the market.
The driver, a woman, is cooperating with investigators and undergoing medical evaluation, officials at the scene said. The condition of the bicyclist was not immediately known.
Video of the scene from TV news helicopters showed An all-silver sedan at the store on Westwood Boulevard.
There was a large police and fire department response with a triage area set up outside the store to treat patients.
The accident took place near the university campus CaliforniaLos Angeles. None of the dead or injured were university students, Espinoza said.
