The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, remains a mystery as authorities continue to investigate a possible abduction from her home.

A former FBI profiler suggests that Nancy Guthrie, 84, may have been targeted by a stranger or people before her abduction. (Savannah Guthrie/Instagram)After dinner with her other daughter, Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona.

According to authorities, there were indications of forced entry and Guthrie was taken from her bed around 2 a.m. Sunday because her pacemaker stopped synchronizing with her Apple Watch data.

“It wasn’t just a random selection of victims.”According to the Daily Mail, Brianna Fox, a former FBI profiler and special agent in the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit and professor of criminology, said it was likely a stranger who kidnapped Nancy Guthrie.

“If it was a family member or someone familiar with the house, they wouldn’t have forced their way in,” he said.

He further elaborated that the person who kidnapped him had not been forced. They probably would have pulled off a task to convince him to go with them and get inside the car if he knew them.

Guthrie did not leave voluntarily. Fox explained that with the evidence he left behind his cell phone and prescription medication. He also mentioned the blood stains discovered on the property.

He then revealed that the abduction was not random. The stranger chose the old woman ahead of time and observed her routine.

Fox said, “It wasn’t just a random selection of victims. It was probably a person or a group of people who chose him, maybe his lifestyle, when he goes to sleep.”

He also added that the abductors were aware that Nancy lived alone without any security.

Another retired detective with the Oceanside PD, Chris McDonough, told the Daily Mail it could have been a gardener or delivery person. “It was somebody who knew he was about 84 years old and he was living in that house by himself. At some point, they got into his environment,” McDonough said.
