Yumnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in as the chief minister of Manipur on Wednesday, a day after being elected leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislature party, along with two deputy chief ministers from the Naga and Kuki-Jo communities.

Naga People’s Front (NPF) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Losi Dikho was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister at the event held at Lok Bhavan in Imphal.
Kuki-Jo BJP MLA from Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency Nemcha Kipgen took oath as Deputy Chief Minister through video conference from Manipur Bhavan in New Delhi.
BJP MLA K Govindas and National People’s Party (NPP) MLA B Loken were sworn in as cabinet ministers.
The event was attended by senior politicians including opposition MLAs, former chief ministers N Biren Singh, O Ibobi Singh and RK Radhavinod, as well as high-ranking police officers and bureaucrats.
A notification issued by the Home Ministry said President’s Rule has been withdrawn with immediate effect from Wednesday.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 356 of the Constitution, I, Draupadi Murmu, the President of India, hereby revoke the Proclamation issued by me under this Article on the 13th day of February, 2025, relating to the State of Manipur, with effect from the notification of the 20th day of February, 2026.”
Amid the Manipur crisis on May 3, 2023, N Biren Singh was forced to resign as chief minister on February 9 last year after threats of a no-confidence motion. Subsequently, President’s Rule was imposed in the strife-torn state on February 13 of the same year.
