The sheriff explains their role (Savannah Guthrie/Instagram)During a recent interview with Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, CNN’s Erin Barnett asked him, “Is it safe to say he could be somewhere? The Border Patrol was involved. Does that mean you think the border could be involved?”
“No,” said Nanos. “I don’t want it to be a political piece.”

“It’s about an elderly woman who lives in our community and went to bed in her safe house and is missing,” Nanos continued. “That’s it.”
He added, “Border Patrol helps us all the time when we’re missing hikers — they have some dogs that do an amazing job. And that’s what they did. They came to help us with their dog team.”
What we know so farAccording to local news station KOLD, Nanos reported that Nancy, 84, was reported missing around noon Sunday by a family member.
“I believe he was kidnapped, yes,” Nanos told CBS. “He didn’t walk out of there. He didn’t want to.”
A sheriff’s office representative told the New York Post, “At this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will and that includes possible abduction or abduction.”

Meanwhile, Savannah thanked everyone for their “thoughts, prayers and messages of support” in a statement shared by the Today Show. “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus is on the safe return of our late mother,” the statement read.
