Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi on Monday cleared the air on his recent comments on the government’s handling of the 2020 China border standoff, which sparked an uproar in the Lok Sabha.

During the ongoing budget session of Parliament, Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi spoke to the media on the Parliament premises after the proceedings of the House were adjourned. (ANI)The MP from Rae Bareli clarified that this is the view of the former army chief, referring to General (retd) MM Naravane and his unpublished memoirs.

“It is not me, this is what the (former) army chief wrote in a book,” news agency PTI quoted Gandhi as saying.

A commotion started inside Lok Sabha Gandhi on Monday repeatedly tried to refer to a magazine report based on a manuscript to question the government’s handling of the 2020 China border conflict. This created a row as Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and other BJP members accused Gandhi of “misleading” the House.

Questioning the government’s fears surrounding the book, Gandhi said it gives important insights into Prime Minister and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

Rahul said the book would also reveal “something about the army and how it was let down by the country’s political leadership”.

The Congress leader said that former army chief MM Naravane had written candidly about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in his book, a quote from which appeared in an article he cited.

Gandhi claimed that the government was not letting him speak out of fear and “if this comes out, the reality of Narendra Modi and Rajnath Singh will be revealed to the people and what happened to the 56 inch chest when China stood against us, advancing?”
