Savannah Guthrie skipped the Today show Monday because of a search and rescue operation to find her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who was reported missing Sunday.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” Savannah said “Right now, our focus is on the safe return of our dear mother.

“We thank law enforcement for their hard work in this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at (520) 351-4900.”

Speaking of the search mission, Chris said, “I don’t need to tell you, it’s very concerning for us; we don’t usually put the sheriff out on a scene like this, but it’s very concerning.”

“I hope we find him safe and sound, but we can’t ignore what’s in front of us,” he added.

Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, is missingFootage was later shown of Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos addressing reporters, saying, “This is of great concern to us. … He has no cognitive issues.” The sheriff also said he is very alert and in good spirits.

She was reported missing on Sunday afternoon, and some elements of the situation at her residence raised “serious concerns,” according to Nanos.

He confirmed that foul play was not ruled out and that drones, aircraft and canine teams were being deployed.

During a news conference, the sheriff told reporters that “concerning evidence” had been discovered, implicating homicide investigators.
