Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha on Sunday Rahul Gandhi refused to comment on Union Budget 2026 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Rahul Gandhi said, “I will speak tomorrow using the platform provided by Parliament.”

The Congress leader was accompanied by his sister and WANAD MP Priyanka Gandhi, who also left without reacting.

Nirmala Sitharaman presented her ninth consecutive budget on Sunday, with the government calling it a blueprint of reforms and vision for the second quarter of the 21st century.

In the Union Budget 2026-2027 speech, Sitharaman pushed for ‘self-reliant India’ and made a series of announcements expected to boost the economy and provide relief to consumers and common taxpayers. But the biggest takeaway was that the income tax slab will remain unchanged, at least till the next budget.

Opposition Response to Budget 2026Congress leader Jairam Ramesh termed the Union Budget 2026-27 as “completely unprepared”. Among the most caustic anti-reactions on Sunday.

Ramesh, the Congress commissioner in charge, wrote in X: “Although the documents still need to be studied in detail, it became clear after just 90 minutes that it fell far short of the heavy atmosphere that had been created around the 2026/27 budget. It turned out to be completely unpleasant. The speech was not transparent, as it did not provide any clear information for all the projects in the budget.”

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also expressed disappointment. “We got very few details. There were three-four titles. But we were waiting for the All India Institute of Ayurveda. Where is it?” He said

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that her state has nothing to offer in the 2026 budget. Trinamool Congress chief He termed the budget as ‘anti-women, anti-farmer, anti-education’.as well as “nothing for the common man”, including “sightless” and “sightless”.

Both Kerala and West Bengal will go to polls a little later this year.
