The US Department of Justice on Friday released new documents linked to late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, seeking to scrutinize those whose names appear in the material. Brad S. Karp, longtime chair of elite New York law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, is among those named in the documents.

Brad Karp has been chairman of Paul, Weiss since 2008. (Paul, Weiss)According to the newly searchable file, Karp’s name appears in multiple email exchanges involving Epstein, though the documents do not accuse him of any criminal wrongdoing.

One record includes correspondence from author Michael Wolff with Epstein referred to as “SB and Brad Karp” without detailing the content or outcome of the discussion.

According to the document summary, additional indexed materials show emails sent from Epstein to Brad S. Karp, referring to topics such as a tax-related investigation and a media article involving Donald Trump and sexual harassment allegations.

The files do not indicate that Karp was under investigation or that he took any action on behalf of Epstein.

The language of ‘personal favor’ attracts attentionIn an email that has been widely circulated on social media, Epstein suggested he faced an “existential decision” about whether to spend a “highly valued personal advantage” to help an unnamed associate despite the personal risk.

Epstein also alluded to an earlier matter involving an $80 million art-tax issue, though the email does not specify Karp’s role or confirm what assistance was provided.

Respond via social mediaThe release created a strong reaction on X. One post claimed, “Jeffrey Epstein felt so close to Brad Karp that he might ask him for a ‘personal favor’ in 2018,” while another added, “Maybe it’s time for Paul Weiss Partners to take a closer look at Brad Karp.”

Another commented “Ah, what? Just Jeffrey Epstein trying to help Robert Kraft secure legal representation. Look who’s involved. Brad Karp and Paul Weiss. It’s one big happy family with Epstein and Trump.”

In other posts speculating about wider implications for Paul Weiss, one user wrote, “The pieces of the puzzle keep fitting. It makes more sense why Paul Weiss folded so quickly, citing the firm’s past dealings with Trump.”

These claims remain unproven and are based on interpretation rather than verified results.

The DOJ has repeatedly warned that the names appearing in the Epstein files do not imply wrongdoing. Documents present raw, unjudged material.
