Multiple people were shot in front of the East Feliciana Parish Courthouse during the Mardi Gras parade in Clinton, Louisiana on Saturday, WBRZ reported, citing officials. The incident happened during the country parade. One child is in critical condition, and five others were injured, the publication added. The suspect is in custody and authorities are looking for a vehicle.

A mass shooting occurred in Clinton, Louisiana on SaturdayLucas Bennett, PLT Report Washington correspondent, tweeted about obtaining a video from the scene. He said it contained ‘horrific images’.

“I received a video about the shooting at the East Feliciana Parish Courthouse during the Mardi Gras parade in Clinton, Louisiana with horrific images. I’m still waiting to confirm that it’s authentic and belongs to the event,” Bennett posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

A video from the scene has surfaced on social media. Several gunshots are heard in the background as locals panic. The police have yet to issue a statement on the incident. Neither the suspects nor the victims have yet been identified.

It comes days after a shooting inside New Orleans’ historic Ducky Chase restaurant. Two suspects were taken into custody in connection with the Jan. 16 killing of 19-year-old Kareem Harris and the wounding of three others.

According to investigators, Harris was shot and killed in the foyer of Dookie Chase after trying to outrun an armed assailant. Detectives say he burst into the restaurant to seek shelter, but the gunman chased him inside and immediately opened fire. Three women dining at the restaurant were shot before the gunman fled. Harris died on the spot.

Police said the three gunmen were visitors, two from Los Angeles and one from Florida. A Los Angeles woman has undergone multiple surgeries after being shot five times, while another remains hospitalized in stable condition. The third woman suffered only a grazing wound and has since been released.

Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick expressed deep concern for the victims. “Our prayers are really for the victims, as well as the survivors of this situation,” he said, adding that the critically injured California visitor “is going to make a recovery.”

Authorities identified 18-year-old Makahi Kelly as the man who allegedly fired the shots. Police located Kelly in the 4600 block of America Street on Jan. 28, arrested him without incident and recovered items believed to be related to the shooting.

Police also arrested 22-year-old Anthony Johnson, who investigators say is responsible for the getaway car used in the killings.
