Pema Khandu, the chief minister of Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, reviewed the status of important hydropower projects in the Dibang Valley district, emphasizing the state’s pressure to strike a balance between timely execution, infrastructure development, local welfare, and national energy security.

The 3,097 MW Italin hydropower project and the 680 MW Atunli HEP, which are currently being implemented, as well as projects under survey like Emini, Amulin, and Mihumdon, were among the hydropower projects that the Chief Minister of Arunachal reviewed.

“With a total planned capacity of 5,097 MW, discussions focused on timelines, regulatory clearances and ensuring that development supports local communities while strengthening India’s energy security,” Khandu said in a statement following a meeting with power developers.

Italin HEP on the Dri River is anticipated to begin construction soon and will be the biggest hydropower project in India.

The Chief Minister stated, “The project, which is being developed by SJVN Limited, is envisioned as a transformative initiative to accelerate infrastructure growth, generate employment, enhance local livelihoods, and significantly increase the country’s clean energy capacity.”

Additionally, Khandu visited the Italin project site along the Rowing-Onini highway, where SJVN representatives gave him a thorough briefing.

The Italin HEP has a 101.5-meter-tall dam with a peak length of 213.7 meters, according to Deputy Chief Minister Chauna Main, who also oversees the power and hydropower departments, on Saturday.

He also mentioned that the project’s techno-economic clearance was rescheduled for January 30 of last year with the approved cost. ₹30,037.36 million.

Officials claim that the project has received Phase-I forest and environmental clearance, and that more than 69% of the land compensation has already been paid, demonstrating the state government’s emphasis on openness and equity.

It is anticipated that the run-of-the-river Attunli HEP will increase Arunachal Pradesh’s capacity for renewable energy.

According to officials, the project consists of four 170 MW generating units with an estimated yearly output of 2,728.50 million units. It also features an advanced tunnel system and an underground power house to ensure efficiency while preserving environmental balance.

“These projects highlight our dedication to inclusive growth, energy security, and sustainable development while safeguarding the interests of local communities and the environment,” Main continued.
